Domaine de Chaberton Estate Winery is located on a 55 acres parcel of land, amongst the rolling hills of south Langley, British Columbia and is just 45 minutes from Vancouver, B.C. Ranked as the third largest estate winery in BC, we are the largest and oldest winery in the Fraser Valley. Our wines have won numerous awards in wine competitions held throughout Canada, the United States and Europe.

The history of Domaine de Chaberton started back in 1975 with Claude and Inge Violet (the founders), who, having sold their winery and vineyard in France, decided to start afresh in the 'New World'. The pioneer spirit was not new to the Violet blood-line as Claude's family had been in the wine business since 1644. After visiting California, Ontario and the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia, Claude and Inge purchased the land where the present site of the Domaine de Chaberton and the Bacchus Bistro are located due to its proximity to Vancouver and warmer climate.

Claude quickly became known as the "Mad Frenchman" when word spread that he planned on planting wine grapes in the Fraser Valley. People within the burgeoning wine industry in British Columbia in the early 70's scoffed at the idea of growing wine grapes in the rain drenched Fraser Valley. But the shrewd Frenchman had done his homework and after doing much research, Claude had found that the property has a microclimate with weather conditions much like those that are formed in northern France. In the early 1980s, the Violets experimented with numerous grape varietals to see which ones produced the best. In the mid 80's, they began planting in earnest. Finally, in 1991, Claude and Inge were satisfied with the quality of the grapes that they were growing and established Domaine de Chaberton Estates. In its first year, Domaine de Chaberton produced 3,000 cases. Today, the winery produces in excess of 45,000 cases a year

After running the vineyard for over 25 years, the Violets sold Domaine de Chaberton to Anthony Cheng and Eugene Kwan. Anthony is a business executive, residing in Hong Kong. He has had business interests in Vancouver for 20 years. Anthony is a connoisseur of fine wines and is responsible for the finishing of our wines. Eugene is a lawyer and a business executive, was born in Shanghai; grew up in Vancouver and, after graduating from UBC, has practiced law for over 35 years. Upon the take over of the winery, the Canoe Cove line was launched and has become an award winning line of wines along with those of Domaine de Chaberton.
